Connect case studies to relevant services

Connect case studies and service pages through a verified contribution, meaningful link text and a maintained two-way reading path.

In this guide
  1. Choose the relationship before placing the link
  2. Link at the point where the reader needs the next explanation
  3. Make the destination clear and reachable
  4. Worked example: a booking integration
  5. Maintain the relationship when either page changes

Choose the relationship before placing the link

A case study and a service page answer different questions. The study explains a particular problem and the work performed; the service page explains what a prospective buyer can request now. Connect them when the service is genuinely demonstrated by the work, not simply because both pages mention the same industry.

Create a small mapping record with the study URL, the contribution described, the relevant service URL and a sentence explaining the relationship. If you cannot write that sentence without adding an unsupported capability, leave the connection out. One strong relationship is more useful to the reader than a panel linking every study to every service.

Link at the point where the reader needs the next explanation

On the case study, place the service link near the part describing the relevant work or the reader’s next decision. Explain whether the destination covers a similar engagement, a technical discipline or an ongoing service. Avoid suggesting that a historical project includes today’s full service package when the original assignment was narrower.

On the service page, introduce the study with the specific question it helps answer. A short sentence can identify the challenge and the contribution before the link. The reader should know why that example matters without opening several unrelated projects to find one that supports the service claim.

Make the destination clear and reachable

Google recommends descriptive, concise anchor text relevant to both the source and destination, and ordinary anchor elements with an href for crawlable links. Use wording that names the next page’s purpose. A repeated “read more” label may leave several project links indistinguishable when a reader scans the page.

Check the actual destination rather than only the visible label. A service link should not unexpectedly open a general homepage, a removed project or another language without explanation. Where a matching language edition exists, use it consistently. Do not change the case study’s canonical to the service URL simply because the pages are connected; they remain different resources.

Worked example: a booking integration

Illustrative example: a fictional case study describes connecting a booking form to an existing scheduling system. Its relevant service destination is an integration service explaining discovery, data mapping and implementation. It should not imply that the team also rebuilt the customer’s entire mobile application if the study contains no such work.

The study can introduce the destination as an explanation of similar integration work. The service page can point back to the example when discussing coordination with an existing system. This creates a useful two-way reading path without inventing a result or duplicating the full case study on the service page. The example is hypothetical, not a client claim.

Maintain the relationship when either page changes

After publishing, follow both directions and check the surrounding text as well as the link response. If the service is discontinued or substantially redefined, review the historical study’s next-step wording. A technically working link can still send a reader to an offer that no longer matches the work described.

Retain a review owner for the mapping and update links when URLs move. Keep any performance measurement separate: a working contextual link is not proof of increased enquiries or ranking gains. SEO Growth Assistant can support public-page link checks, while the person familiar with the project must confirm that the service relationship is accurate.
